Last year, More LA Smiles was launched, a UCLA-led Dental Transformation Initiative dedicated to expanding oral health access to half a million children on Medi-Cal in LA County. Now, as we kick off National Children’s Dental Health Month in February, we’re excited to share with you our program offerings, plans for 2019 and ways to get involved as we continue to roll out new program components.

More LA Smiles offers Quality Improvement programs and Clinical Trainings for Medical and Dental Providers that include CME, MOC and CE credits at no cost, including:
- Overview and Advanced Clinical Trainings for medical and dental providers to increase knowledge in contemporary pediatric dental caries prevention and disease management.
- A Primary Care Practice Quality Improvement (PCPQI) program which provides technical assistance to primary care physicians and support staff in delivering preventive oral health services during well child visits within their own practices.
- An Oral Health Improvement Collaborative (OHIC) where medical and dental teams learn in-depth quality improvement skills to improve practice operations and patient care coordination geared toward reducing the burden of early childhood caries.
During 2019, we are committed to training more than 800 dental providers and 750 medical providers in pediatric oral health through these program offerings. Our team of Quality Improvement Specialists are available to provide support on-site and/or virtually to your providers. Contact us today if you are interested in joining this effort.
In addition, More LA Smiles is launching the Los Angeles Dental Registry & Referral System (LADRRS), a tool designed to integrate and coordinate oral health care for LA children across medical and dental providers. We look forward to partnering with you to promote the use of this tool within your practice and/or network of providers. Let us know if you would like a demo or want to learn more.
We are also thrilled to unveil our revamped website later this month, which among other resources will host More LA Smiles Connections – a community-based, oral health tool for connecting teachers, school nurses, community organizations, Head Start programs and others with oral health resources and services. Stay tuned for a formal announcement!
