Dental professionals from around the world attend CDA Presents to learn about the latest clinical and technological advances in the industry, earn C.E. and take advantage of networking opportunities. In the process, they hear from some of dentistry’s most captivating speakers, which will be the case at CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry in Anaheim on May 15-17.
The Anaheim convention typically draws more than 27,000 dental professionals. Del Brunner, DDS, chair of the CDA Presents Board of Managers, says this year’s attendees can expect a remarkable educational program.
“The excellence of our speakers, both internationally and nationally recognized, will provide our attendees with a wonderful opportunity to be challenged and stimulated in their practices and in the delivery of quality dentistry,” Brunner said.
Below are some of the distinguished speakers at CDA Presents this May.
International Symposia
Miguel Angel Diez Gurtubay, MsC – Diez Gurtubay is in private practice dedicated to oral rehabilitation, esthetics and implantology in Mexico City and Puebla, Mexico. He is an international restorative dentistry speaker. Gurtubay will provide an overview of the surgical-prosthetic techniques in the completely edentulous superior arch. He will also instruct on how to design a treatment plan of a functionally and esthetically compromised anterior segment.
Norbert Krämer, PhD – Dr. Krämer is the director of the Policlinic of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Gießen of Germany and past president of the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Krämer will lecture on new restorative strategies in pediatric dentistry – primary dentition and permanent dentition.
Cadaver Workshops
Mark C. Paxton, DDS – Dr. Paxton is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He has been teaching ACLS, PALS and ATLS for nearly 20 years and is the CEO of Spokane Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in Spokane, Wash. Paxton will help attendees identify and site-specifically dissect the anatomical fossae of local anesthesia.
Mel Hawkins, DDS, BScD(AN) – Dr. Hawkins is a dentist and dental anesthesiologist who has been in private practice in Toronto for more than 30 years. He received his dental degrees from the University of Toronto. At his lectures and workshops, attendees will learn and perform local anesthesia techniques for the maxillofacial complex and oral cavity, highlighting the infratemporal fossae and the pterygomandibular triangle.
Robert J. Achterberg, DDS, MS – Dr. Achterberg manages an oral biopsy service in Spokane, Wash. He is a diplomate of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Achterberg will lecture on “Essential Core Oral Pathology” and “Prebiopsy Diagnostic Challenges.”
Henry A. Gremillion, DDS – Dr. Gremillion completed a fellowship in craniofacial pain at the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 1991 where he served as director of the Parker E. Mahan Facial Pain Center from 1991 to 2008. He serves as dean at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans. He will provide attendees with an anatomical review of the dynamic masticatory system and contiguous structures and describe the complex function of the temporomandibular joint.
New Product Demo Lectures
Tricia Osuna, RDH, BS, FAADH – Ms. Osuna is a past president of the American Academy of Dental Hygiene and the California Dental Hygienists’ Association and a former member of the Dental Board of California. Ms. Osuna’s career spans a variety of roles including consultant, clinician and educator. She will lecture on “Restorative and Whitening Products” and “Preventive and Infection Products.”
Endodontics
Clifford J. Ruddle, DDS, FACD, FICD – Dr. Ruddle lectures on endodontic education. He is a graduate of the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and completed postgraduate work in endodontics at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Ruddle will demonstrate how to create both coronal and radicular access using 3-D animations and clinical ops. The focus will be on treating root canal systems/maximizing tooth structure. He also will lecture on “Glide Path Management and Shaping Canals,” “3-D Disinfection and Filling Root Canal Systems” and “Endodontic Nonsurgical Treatment.”
Provisionals
Lee Ann Brady, DMD – Dr. Brady is president and education director at Lee Ann Brady LLC and is a nationally recognized writer and educator. She will cover provisional cementation techniques to reduce sensitivity and provide retention. She also will lecture on “Posterior Bonded Porcelain Techniques and Materials.”
Restorative Dentistry
Jeff J. Brucia, DDS – Dr. Brucia practices esthetic and restorative dentistry in San Francisco and is the co-director of the FACE Institute where he chairs the Department of Esthetics and Adhesive Material Science. Brucia will lecture on the options available in adhesive systems, including the new advancements in glass ionomers, and will also lead a lecture on gaining an understanding of periodontal anatomy and surgery as they relate to dental implants.
Gerard J. Chiche, DDS – Dr. Chiche is the Thomas P. Hinman Endowed Chair in Restorative Dentistry and the director of the Center for Esthetic and Implant Dentistry at Georgia Regents University, College of Dental Medicine in Augusta, Ga. He has hosted numerous programs nationally and internationally. He will present key points formulated into a systematic step-by-step approach to resolve esthetic problems with predictable results and improved laboratory support.
Pascal Magne, DMD, PhD – Dr. Magne is the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation Professor of Esthetic Dentistry in the Division of Restorative Sciences at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. He is the author of numerous clinical and research articles in esthetic and adhesive dentistry. He will teach attendees how to optimize their bonding technique in the anterior dentition. He will also lead a lecture on how to identify the advantages of chairside CAD/CAM restorative procedures.
