Dr. Jeanette MacLean will review some of the emerging treatments options along with a brief overview of their clinical use. Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a revolutionary approach to combating caries in a non-invasive manner.
Since its 2014 FDA clearance in the US and a widely publicized 2016 feature in the New York Times, there has been tremendous interest surrounding the use of SDF from patients and dentists. Learn the principles of case selection, informed consent, treatment planning, and a clinical protocol for SDF.
Learn how to restore cavities in a quick, effective, and painless way using SDF, Glass Ionomer Cement, and stainless steel crowns, known as Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (SMART) and the Hall Technique. Unsightly congenital enamel defects and acquired white spot lesions can be troublesome for many patients. Historically, these blemishes have been treated with invasive and costly resin bondings and veneers. Dealing with enamel defects can prove particularly troublesome for young patients, which when left untreated, often become a source of embarrassment for the patient. Or worse, some lesions may progress to cavitations, particularly post-orthodontic white spot lesions. This course will show you three simple and painless options to manage enamel defects. MI Paste, ICON Resin Infiltration, and etch/bleach seal can improve or even completely reverse the appearance of congenital enamel defects and white spot lesions while preserving tooth structure and repairing the patient’s natural enamel.

Dr. MacLean is internationally recognized as an expert and advocate for silver diamine fluoride (SDF) and minimally invasive dentistry. She has been appointed to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Speakers Bureau, and has provided lectures across the United States and Canada, as well as webinars viewed in 39 countries. Dr. MacLean is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, one of only two Board Certified pediatric dentists in Glendale, Arizona. Her research has been published in the journal Pediatric Dentistry, the official publication of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She has been featured in the New York Times, Good Morning Arizona, Phoenix Magazine Top Dentists, written articles for Dentaltown magazine, been featured on KTAR New Talk Radio’s The Agenda, the Howard Speaks dental podcast series, has appeared on AZTV’s Kids Corner and is a spokesperson for the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation.
